Summary
Inside the unmanned helicopter's ground control shelter, the reconnaissance team successfully compromised the IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) system, directing the helicopter to attack the multinational force before landing at an airfield controlled by the Union. Meanwhile, Jacqueline and Tatyana survived the battle and prepared to report the bad news, that the unmanned helicopter had defected to the enemy, to the multinational force's high command.

I get it! I understand now! This type of drone has multiple target recognition methods.
Sylvia
For example, matching against images in the database, using a thermal imager to observe low-emissivity marker strips, and the radio signal transponders we used previously...
Erika
It's that complicated? Can you still handle it?
Sylvia
Don't rush me! All that's needed is... well, to swap the friend-or-foe labels for the armored vehicle images in the database.
Sylvia
This way, they can freely attack the enemy's armored battalion without striking our own forces!

Erika
But isn't the IFF system on that thing notorious for malfunctioning? If it could mistakenly strike multinational forces, it might just as well mistakenly hit our division's tanks...
Sylvia
This is indeed hard to avoid...
Felice (Aloy)
That’s simple. We just have the drones dump all their ammunition onto the enemy, leaving not a single round behind, and they won't be firing at our troops anymore.
Sylvia
Also, setting up a self-destruct sequence is actually quite complicated; I haven't found a way to handle it yet.
Prapor
I do have an idea: we could modify their navigation programs to set the designated return zone within territory under our control.
Prapor
In this way, we can capture these drones and obtain data on the enemy's military technology development.
Sylvia
Prapor's approach was indeed very ingenious. However, surely our military's air defense systems would intercept those drones?
Sylvia
Under current circumstances, it is difficult to ensure that all frontline air defense units receive notification to let these aircraft pass.
Prapor
Let’s take the enemy’s stealth design at face value for once, if it doesn't actually perform well, then it implies our forces wouldn't be able to glean any useful technology from it anyway, right?

I have requested follow-up strikes from higher command.
Felice (Aloy)
It looks like they are heading straight for their targets. The enemy has been spotted, and the lead aircraft is assigning targets.
Four helicopters flew in a line toward the target. Many soldiers in the Vespuccian army formation, anxious about the impending engagement, naturally assumed upon seeing the gunships that they were returning after just completing a bombing run across the border.
Seeing the helicopters return with sleek, unblemished fuselages, showing no signs of having been hit, the soldiers breathed a collective sigh of relief, surmising that the enemy was likely too weak to put up a fight.
So, people waved at them one after another. However, some also noticed that these strange, cockpit-less helicopters were heavily armed with munitions still slung underneath.
Just as these individuals were filled with suspicion, the unmanned helicopters launched dozens of Hellfire missiles, striking the Vespuccian Army’s 13th Armored Cavalry Regiment as it advanced; caught completely off guard and unable to mount any countermeasure, the unit was left at the mercy of the incoming fire. The Hellfire missiles turned the column into a blazing inferno.
The drone attacks were executed with methodical precision. The unsuspecting Vespuccian military column fell right into the trap. They proceeded to systematically hunt down the enemy convoy, which had not yet deployed for combat. Their tactics were simple: prioritize tanks, then infantry fighting vehicles, and finally, the remaining vehicles.
The stunned enemy attempted to scatter, but the unmanned helicopter immediately adopted a new tactic, targeting vehicles trying to find alternative escape routes and destroying them in the middle of the road, thereby blocking the convoy behind.
This strategy proved highly effective, completely preventing the enemy from dispersing. The helicopters constantly repositioned to target the most vulnerable points of the enemy's armor and engaged light vehicles with autocannons rather than missiles.
Recovering from their initial disarray, and while communications remained intact, the Vespuccian forces began mobilizing their anti-aircraft fire in an attempt to counterattack.
However, the unmanned helicopters immediately responded to the new enemy situation, prioritizing attacks on anti-aircraft vehicles and infantry units carrying anti-aircraft missiles. Even the team members were astonished by the effectiveness of these weapons. They were emotionless, methodically killing people.
The unmanned helicopters had expended their ammunition but remained on station, hovering to assess the results of the strike, as a standard procedure for their mission profile. The surviving ground vehicles finally glimpsed a glimmer of hope and began trying to push aside the wreckage to find an escape route; however, several OTR-21 Tochka missiles rained down from the sky, completely saturating the enemy positions and delivering the final blow.

Jacqueline
I told you so! These machines are unreliable!
Tatyana
Miss Jacqueline! There are still unextinguished sparks on you, they've set your hair on fire!
Jacqueline
They even want my signature—they even want my permission! ...
Tatyana
Alright, alright, it's out... That was a close call, Miss Jacqueline nearly ended up with a bald patch.
Jacqueline
This isn't the time to worry about going bald! Did you see what those drones did?
Tatyana
It launched a salvo of missiles just like usual, then flew away...
Jacqueline
This is far from business as usual; the target of their missile launch this time is our army's armored forces!
Tatyana
Oh, right, these drones are all capable of operating completely independently.
Jacqueline
And then, while still under enemy control, it flew off toward the east, it had defected to the enemy!
Tatyana
This also demonstrates that these drones are indeed fully controlled by the operators.
Jacqueline
Can you imagine? Just a handful of Easterners completely wrecked the entire project, and handed the Phalanstery a massive gift in the process!
Tatyana
This group of people is really impressive.
Jacqueline
What are you talking about?
Tatyana
This is the sort of thing that could be done by the "career soldiers with a sense of honor", the people who "fight for justice and honor, "that Ms. Jacqueline always spoke of.
Jacqueline
That’s right... they are able to seize the initiative, always striking their opponents in unexpected places and in unexpected ways.
Jacqueline
Our enemies aren't all just a bunch of dim-witted conscripts.
Jacqueline
Our enemies aren't all just a bunch of dim-witted conscripts.
Tatyana
So, this can also be considered a good thing.
Jacqueline
A good thing?
Tatyana
The remote-controlled machine that Miss Jacqueline loathed most was destroyed. The war had once again become a contest between honorable soldiers.
Jacqueline
Fair enough... you're right. This bitter lesson ought to snap those bureaucrats, obsessed as they are with spreadsheets, out of their delusions.
Jacqueline
Wars cannot be won simply by piling up high-tech systems or calculating cost-benefit ratios...
Jacqueline
Wait, what did you just say?
Tatyana
I was saying the thing Miss Jacqueline detests most is…
Jacqueline
Not this one, go further back!
Tatyana
Oh, I said this might be a good thing...
Jacqueline
No, no, no! I mean, before we discuss those wretched drones!
Tatyana
Oh! A stray spark singed your hair, so now the hair at the back of your head, Miss Jacqueline, is significantly shorter...
Jacqueline
What?! That bunch of lawless thugs actually dared to mess with me!
Jacqueline
There’s no other choice. Let’s find a barber first to salvage my hairstyle, I certainly can’t go report to my superiors looking like I’ve got a messy bird's nest on my head.
