Personal History

Sylph, the head of the Golden Fleece Guard Unite, knows nothing about weaponry or combat and is prone to acting on impulse; she is hardly a competent manager or commander. Fortunately, she is wise enough to delegate the actual work to Windsor, the head maid, while she herself simply enjoys the fruits of others' labor.

Windsor, who always maintains an air of elegance, is the backbone of the Golden Fleece Guard Unite. Sylph trusts her implicitly, knowing that Windsor can flawlessly resolve any trouble that arises. To the subordinate maids, Windsor is like a patient, considerate big sister; she excels at mentoring and guiding them, offering constant encouragement. This warm, gentle atmosphere allows the young female knights to cast aside the anxiety stemming from their status and obsessions, enabling them to devote themselves to their duties and battles with composure. Yet, Windsor puts in tremendous effort to make this possible: she is the first to wake up at five in the morning and often works late into the night. If bandits raid the sheep, she must catch up on neglected tasks after the fighting ends, leaving her with almost no rest throughout the day.

Although Windsor is skilled at training female knights into maids that meet Sylph's standards, she feels deeply ashamed of being a maid herself. She holds conservative moral views, believing that abandoning one's post and deceiving superiors for the sake of money violates the knightly code of honor. Consequently, she is extremely cautious about concealing her true identity; the mere accidental mention of the word "knight" can cause her to lose her composure, fearing her secret has been exposed and plunge her into a state of profound shame. Thus, whenever the cunning maid Larida wants to escape Windsor's supervision, she will say, "It is all thanks to Captain Windsor's efforts that so many knights have ended up working as maids!"

In an era lacking Earth's technology, wealthy lords required large teams of maids to handle household chores, leading to the development of highly elaborate and intricate management systems and workflows. However, serving as a maid for Sylph meant that standard conventions no longer applied, placing an exceptionally heavy burden on Windsor’s shoulders. For one, Sylph’s requirements were unconventional; she disliked having maids prepare everything out of sight beforehand, preferring instead to be constantly surrounded by an entourage. Secondly, Sylph frequently made demands on a whim, making it difficult to establish any stable routine. Finally, Sylph believed her maid should handle *everything*, so Windsor had to juggle housework, combat training, patrols, and tavern management; were it not for the sake of propriety, she might even have found herself shearing sheep.

Such a workload clearly exceeded the normal duties of a head maid. Yet, the salary Sylph offered was high enough to cover the tuition for Windsor’s five younger siblings. Windsor desperately wanted them to acquire a skilled trade so they wouldn't have to make a living carrying a rifle in the Republic Guard, so she was willing to shoulder even the most crushing workload.

Windsor’s greatest joy was receiving letters from her family, while writing back was her most awkward task. She always shared good news while concealing the bad, specifically, the fact that she took on side jobs to earn extra money. To put her family’s minds at ease, she claimed her earnings were rewards for military valor and told her siblings she was highly respected by her comrades-in-arms—stories that brought her family great comfort. Yet, was she really lying? It was simply that the rewards and respect she received came not from her role as a knight, but from her role as a maid...
