Personal History

Philippa serves as a machine gunner for the Black Horse Squadron. Her mind is a hotbed of conspiracy theories; consumed by the paranoid delusion that someone is out to brainwash her, she constantly researches how to construct self-sustaining bunkers to safeguard her independent will. In reality, however, she harbors no true aversion to "brainwashing", instead, she feels a forbidden curiosity and longing for it. Whenever she suspects she is being brainwashed, she does not resist; rather, she instinctively begins to savor the experience...

For many, the Space Race, that great leap into the cosmos, is an endeavor steeped in romance and heroism. Philippa, however, views it as a nefarious enterprise rife with conspiracy, oppression, and collusion, a scheme designed primarily to forge new instruments of tyranny. Although her premises are baseless, her conclusion is, in a twisted way—spot on: nothing in the world is more dangerous than this.

Philippa styles herself as the true heir to the founding ideals of Vespuccia and a staunch defender of free will. In her eyes, the leadership of both the Union and the Entente consists of power-hungry puppet masters hell-bent on enslaving the populace; she, a lone hero, refuses to bow to tyranny. Consequently, she constantly devises strategies to fight on without external support, such as stockpiling supplies in heavily fortified bunkers.

A common belief among the Entente nations is that the Union's possesses a sinister "brainwashing" technology. Through a combination of audiovisual stimuli, chemical agents, mysterious artificial viruses, or intangible electromagnetic signals, this technology can allegedly implant alien thoughts and memories into a person's mind, transforming them into a loyal puppet of the regime. Philippa not only subscribes to this belief but also reasons that since the Union possesses such technology, the Entente, being cut from the same cloth—surely does as well. Thus, she vehemently rejects the issuance of new electronic devices and medications, fearing they might contain embedded microchips capable of brainwashing. Philippa held her own interpretation of the mission to pursue Prapor’s party to Nox: she believed the massive undertaking of building the United Territory was nothing but a smokescreen, with its citizens and factories serving merely as extras and stage sets designed to deceive the people of Earth. The resources the two superpowers poured into Nox were actually intended for a different purpose, to locate powerful aliens, collude with them, and acquire mind-control technology to subjugate the populace. This so-called "Legacy" was, in fact, that very alien brainwashing technology. Although the Union had once been defeated through the tireless efforts of the Freedom Fighters—rather than the governments of the Entente, and the plot to brainwash humanity using the Legacy thwarted, Prapor, backed by Mariana (whom Philippa considered a member of the "Deep State"), was now resuming this nefarious enterprise, thereby attracting the covetous gaze of the Entente’s high command.

Thus, destroying the wicked Legacy before it could fall into the hands of the Deep State became the Freedom Fighters' inescapable duty... Yet, anyone could see that whenever Philippa spoke of brainwashing or sinister conspiracies, she did so not with hatred or loathing, but with an expression of longing, as if she were impatient to experience the sensation of being brainwashed herself. Alexandra found her peculiar tastes exasperating, whereas Natasha sensed a kindred spirit in her.

Personal Report

Philippa is a machine gunner for the Dark Horse Squadron. She views herself as the true heir to the founding ideals of Vespuccia and is a firm believer in conspiracy theories claiming that secret organizations are plotting to control the entire world. Consequently, she constantly studies ways to resist the brainwashing tactics of the "Deep State" and malevolent aliens, striving to safeguard her own free will. A common "piece of common knowledge" among the Entente nations is that the Union possesses sinister "brainwashing" technology capable of implanting foreign memories and viewpoints into people's minds, turning them into obedient puppets of tyranny. Philippa subscribes wholeheartedly to this belief; she logically deduces that since the Entente leadership—like their Union counterparts—consists of power-hungry puppet masters intent on enslaving the populace, they are naturally just as adept at deploying these mass brainwashing techniques. To her, the space race is merely another oppressive, nefarious scheme; she believes the true objective of space exploration is to collude with aliens and refine brainwashing technology in order to establish a global dictatorship. Although her premises are entirely baseless, her conclusion is—ironically—spot on: nothing in the world is more dangerous than this.

Whether at home or in the barracks, Philippa tirelessly researches ways to counter pervasive brainwashing plots. She guards against the Deep State and aliens attempting to manipulate her through sensory stimuli (light and sound), chemical agents, mysterious electromagnetic signals, or invisible cosmic rays. She habitually wears a homemade anti-brainwashing helmet and plans the construction of a well-stocked, fortified bunker for a final stand should tyranny prevail. Furthermore, she rejects all new electronic devices and medications, fearing they might contain microchips designed for brainwashing.

Philippa also has her own interpretation of "The Eastern Project" a joint initiative driven by aerospace giants and the governments of former Union nations: that "Prapor" is clearly a traitor to humanity, a collaborator who has sold his soul to aliens and the Deep State! She is convinced that the Union legacy he seeks possesses potent brainwashing capabilities and suspects that Prapor himself has mastered various sinister brainwashing arts. Thus, dismantling the legacy of evil, apprehending the "ball-traitors," and thwarting the Deep State's plans for global domination became the undeniable duty of Philippa, the freedom fighter!

...That said, Natasha could tell: whenever Philippa spoke of brainwashing or sinister conspiracies, she didn't show hatred or loathing; instead, her face lit up with longing, as if she couldn't wait to experience the exquisite pleasure of being brainwashed herself.

Interviews transcript

Interviewee: Gabrielle
Sergeant Philippa is a wonderful person; she was happy to chat with me about plowing and composting, and even gave me some of her homemade "Rouran-style fermented beef jerky" to eat... though, unfortunately, Miss Manprit later mistook it for horse manure and threw it away.

Interviewee: Natasha
The Black Horse Squadron is made up of people who support the Union, so it’s only natural that everyone is interested in Prapor! Take Philippa, for instance—she’s probably the most interested of the lot.

Interviewee: Elena
I’ve explained to her more than once: Prapor didn't feed us strange drugs or show us bizarre images. We joined the operation with our wits fully about us, out of respect for Prapor and an alignment with the goals of the Eastern Project. But how did she respond? "Right, right—that’s exactly the sign of someone who’s been thoroughly brainwashed!"
