Karin serves as a medic within the 8th Squad of the Joint Development Region Security Bureau,she has nurturing support-oriented character. Her EGO enables her to gauge comrades' core body temperatures, preventing excessive blood loss or frostbite in frigid environments (This proves vital during operations in frigid zones). Compared to teammates who are either overzealous, overly focused, or excessively lax, she appears more considerate and attentive to individuals. However, in other respects, she remains no more mature than a typical seventeen-year-old girl. Her excessive consumption of poorly printed romance paperbacks with clumsy prose leads her to interpret all social interactions through the lens of romanticised notions.
Karin's EGO ability allows her to perceive the temperature of surrounding objects like a thermal imaging device, enabling her to readily identify others' injuries and assess their severity. Before joining Squad Eight, she worked in the Security Bureau's Containment Unit, patrolling the streets to rescue those in mortal peril, in winter, people frozen stiff on the roads, in summer, those injured in brawls. Karin's proficient first-aid skills and compassionate care for the injured saved numerous lives and preserved healthy limbs. When forming the 8th Squad, Elena recognised her expertise as invaluable, ensuring the team's safety during prolonged outdoor operations in frigid regions.
Both in appearance and mindset, Karin was the very picture of a seventeen-year-old girl. Beyond her day job, her interests mirrored those of any typical teenager: cheap romance novels and sentimental love films. Naïve and inexperienced, Karin tends to interpret all interpersonal relationships through the lens of romance, explaining every human action by the power of love. She indulges in her own fantasies, conjuring up intricate tales of passionate love and bitter enmity. She would then become utterly absorbed in these fantasies and precisely because of this, Karin was utterly incapable of reading the room, as she found it difficult to discern others' true feelings and thoughts from their outward expressions.
Karin's elongated ears bear witness to her Circassian heritage. Numerous fantastical or outlandish legends surround this dwindling immortal race, such as claims that all possess formidable EGO abilities, or that they inhabit an all-female matriarchal society. Yet none of these tales can be confirmed or disproved through Karin: she retains no memory of her past and knows not how she came to the United Territories. Karin's known history began ten years ago when she was found on the streets by the Security Bureau's rescue team, her appearance then scarcely different from now. As a homeless girl whose family could not be traced, she was placed in the Security Bureau's charitable school. Upon graduation, she joined the Security Bureau, a common path within the United Territories.
Personal Report
Karin is the medic in the 8th Squad. Compared to her teammates who are either overly hardworking, overly focused, or overly carefree, Karin is gentle, lively, and kind, and good at taking care of people. However, due to her lack of social common sense, she always makes wild guesses about other people's thoughts and behaviors from a romantic perspective, making Karin a burden on Captain Elena that is no less than that of the other team members.
Karin's unique EGO is the ability to accurately determine the temperature of nearby objects. This ability is quite useful, ranging from basic medical treatments like headaches and fevers to preventing frostbite on extremely cold battlefields and preventing hypothermia in wounded soldiers with bleeding injuries. Karin previously served in the Guard Bureau's containment team, responsible for patrolling the streets to help homeless people or those who were drunk on the streets—the winters in Unity City are extremely cold, and many people have survived or avoided amputation thanks to Karin.
Karin's special skills caught Elena's attention, but recruiting her into the 8th Squad wasn't easy: Karin claimed she had no memory of her family background or childhood experiences, only recalling what happened after arriving in the United Territory. Her file only recorded that Karin was rescued by the Guard Bureau as a refugee 10 years prior, received short-term training, and joined the containment team; her prior experience was a blank. This meant a complete background check was impossible. Ultimately, considering Karin's abilities could ensure the safety of the team members during extended outdoor activities in cold regions, Elena accepted this "unknown" girl into her ranks.
Karin's face was often beaming with an innocent and carefree smile—but due to amnesia, her innocence was far more pronounced than it appeared. With the social experience of a 10-year-old, Karin completely failed to grasp the true thoughts and emotions of "ordinary humans." In her quest to become human, she immersed herself in cheap romance novels and childish romantic movies. She attempted to explain all interpersonal relationships through romantic connections, and all human behavior through the power of love, indulging in her own fantasies of passionate love and hate, and becoming deeply engrossed in them.
As the most common object of their imaginations, the comrades of the 8th Squad were used to being both amused and exasperated by Karin's delusions. It was understandable that Karin, who seemed like a watery, girlish young woman, was immersed in rosy fantasies—even though Karin's appearance and figure hadn't changed much in the past 10 years.
