Personal History
Yuleni Oskieva is the daughter of Oskieva an engineer for the Phalanstery Union—and a Knight of Ruvila. After her father’s death, she stepped into his shoes, taking a job as an office clerk at a machinery plant. Yuleni is a loner by nature; she keeps to herself, avoids entanglements with others, and has few friends. Colleagues occasionally catch her studying books on the subject, leading them to suspect she possesses tailoring skills, yet whenever asked, she evasively denies it—likely to avoid being pestered to make clothes for others. However, this reclusive figure harbors a secret identity: the eccentric thief "FireFly," who robs the rich to aid the poor.
Her dramatic flair—specifically the way she taunts and eludes pursuers—has turned "FireFly's Escapades" into a spectacle on the streets of Unity City. As her reputation as a "Robin Hood-esque" figure grows, she has become a hero to the Union's lower classes; her portraits and even photographs can be found in many of the city's slums. Unlike scavengers, who risk their lives only for a livelihood and avoid heavily guarded facilities, FireFly relishes the thrill of infiltrating restricted zones, defying authority, and toying with her enemies. She targets formidable entities across the board—Union officials, private corporations, Knight-controlled territories, and even the criminal underworld. Her loot typically consists of high-value items imported directly from Earth, such as optical lenses, electronic components, scarce medicines, and film reels.
FireFly is a prime target of Felice's investigations, but the thief's popularity means the public rarely cooperates with the authorities. Consequently, Felice usually only manages to apprehend black-market dealers reselling the stolen goods—intermediaries who have no direct contact with FireFly herself. Felice surmises that the attention-loving FireFly must rely on a collective effort to conceal her identity so effectively. Her intuition is correct: FireFly's true protector is Ishtar, a nun from the Kingdom; after being wounded by gunfire, she was saved by Theresa, an underground doctor with ties to Ishtar. Afterward, FireFly continued to keep to herself, maintaining little contact with the others in Ishtar's "network"; yet, she clearly regarded them as her own, for they subsequently received well-fitted, alluring lingerie as gifts.
Ababil’s drive for financial independence is undeniable: she pestered official drivers until they taught her to drive, and by memorizing dictionaries of Earth languages—combined with a mix of gestures and guesswork—she actually mastered methods to communicate with people from various Earth nations, vastly expanding her business reach. Yet, whenever the chance for an easy gain arises, she is just as willing to secure benefits through flattery, sycophancy, or by leveraging her own personal charm.
Yulenie enjoyed a blissful childhood, with a father who possessed an extensive collection of films. In her spare time as a student, she would watch these movies with her parents. Her mother, a skilled seamstress, would craft beautiful outfits for young Yulenie, modeled after the costumes seen on screen. That idyllic childhood came to an end alongside the Space Race. Her father suffered a sudden cerebral hemorrhage while returning home, and her mother later perished in a massive industrial accident within the United Territory’s manufacturing zone. The loss of both parents dealt a devastating emotional blow to Yulenie. Deprived of the protection afforded by her father’s status as an engineer, she found herself treated with cold indifference by colleagues and superiors alike as she struggled with her unstable mental state. The streets of the United Territory were far from safe after dark; they teemed with disabled beggars, protection-racket gangs, smugglers conducting illicit deals, and con artists. One night, while returning home after working late,
she witnessed security personnel molesting a young female beggar; in a flash of action, she splashed the vegetable oil she was carrying onto the assailant and unleashed a fire spell—the resulting towering flames illuminated the entire dim street... After that night, a terrified Yulenie vanished into the alleyways, while FireFly—a vigilante championing the poor—stepped out into the light of the streetlamps, finally liberating the sense of justice and the emotions she had long kept suppressed.
